Biographical Note 

G. Marian Kinget was born in Belgium on June 2, 1910. She died on February 27, 1997, in Okemos, Michigan, at the age of 86. Kinget is best known as an educator and psychologist with a focus on humanistic psychology. G. Marian Kinget received her M.A. in 1943 from the University of Louvain in Belgium and later received her Ph.D. in 1948 also from the University of Louvain. Kinget came to the United States in 1948 for post doctoral study at New York University, Columbia University, and the University of Chicago, where she worked with Carl Rogers. Kinget naturalized to the United States in 1957. She became an assistant professor of psychology at Michigan State University in 1952 and she continued to teach after she received the title of professor emeritus in 1981. Kinget taught such courses as “Humanistic Psychology” and “Love and Will.” She has been credited with teaching the first formal course in humanistic psychology in America 

Dr. Kinget’s publications include, On Being Human, 1975; Psychotherapie et Relations Humaines (translation Spanish and Portuguese), Vol. II, 1962; The Drawing-Completion Test, 1952; (with Carl R. Rogers) Psychotherapie et Relations Humanes (translation Spanish, Italian and Portuguese), Vol. I, 1962; Psychotherapie en Menselifjke Verhoudingen, 1959; and several contributions to chapters and books. Kinget also was featured in several articles including, “Complete These Drawings” featured in Life Magazine June 9, 1952. This article was an introduction to Kinget’s “Drawing-Completion Test: A Projective Technique for the Investigation of Personality Based on the Wartegg Test Blank, 1952.”

The papers of G. Marian Kinget reflect her study and work in humanistic psychology, of which Kinget, along with colleague Dr. Carl Rogers, helped to promote in the 1960s and 1970s. Included in this collection is the manuscript for the Rogers/Kinget book, “Psychotherapy and Human Relations” as well as notes concerning Rogerian Existentialism and research conducted by Carl Rogers.

Samples and results of Wartegg Drawing Completion Test and Guilford-Martin Temperament Test. Includes photographs of Wartegg Test drawings.
