Joy RamosAssociate LecturerJoycelyn Drozd Ramos ( otherwise known as Joy Ramos) was born in Chicago, and attended both Catholic elementary and high schools. She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in 1975 with honors, and a B.A. in Special Education and Elementary Education, with a minor concentration in Ancient History/Classics. She earned an M.A. in Anthropology from Northern Illinois University in 1980 and pursued post-masters study at the University of Texas at Austin, in anthropology, education, and museum studies. Some of her research interests include : foodways, ritual, (especially rites of passage), museum studies, comparative education, and accessibility concerns. Joy also volunteers at the Mustill Store, a historic site along the Canal. She likes reading, hiking with her family dog, running in charity races, and traveling. She teaches Introduction to Cultural Anthropology and has been teaching as a part-time faculty member, since Fall, 1990. Further, she works full-time as a Library Associate-Senior at The University of Akron's Bierce Library Cataloging Department and has been with the library since June 1989.
