--University of Toledo's Rocket Invitational Tournament--

9/20/03

We competed in the University of Toledo's Rocket Invitational Tournament, a 4 team round robin event, w/each team playing 3 games against each entrant in the Saturday tournament. Special thanks to our roster of Adam Crabtree, Lee Eisinger, Scott Henry, Steve Horsfield, Heather Loge, Tim McCann, Dave Poole, Carlos Rodriguez, Scott Westhoven, Joe Zaucha and myself. Highlights included Steve driving through a deer (or deer trying to run through he & his car!) simply to make it to the tournament - and then proceeding to play out of his mind in net all day long!! Adam (scored his 1st goal), Scott and Tim each improved significantly while playing in the second tournament of their young polo careers - and second in a week! - and each did very well! Heather was the only woman playing in the entire tournament, and made many timely passes while playing tenacious defense all day. It ! was great to fortify our roster w/some veteran leadership, play and scoring punch from Lee, Dave, Scott Westhoven and Joe! Carlos continued to help lead the way w/tremendous defense, timely steals & several great goals, including the first 2 in the opening game against Toledo, which brings us to the scores:

Akron 9 - Toledo 7 - a tough back and forth game all the way through!
GVSU 16- Akron 5 - GVSU took 3rd at the 14 team Hillbilly tourney & brought their full roster.
Akron 9 - WMU 8 - also a very tight game, but our strong team defense & timely goals won it!

We all had a lot of fun - especially since we were playing together for the second week in a row, w/a bit bigger roster and it always helps to win a few!! A very special thanks to Lee for driving his luxury coach for the bulk of the team, and to Steve for perservering despite the bloody Bambi!

--University of Tennessee's Hillbilly Classic Invitational--

9/13-14/2003

For the first time ever Akron entered a team in the University of Tennessee's Hillbilly Classic Invitational Tournament down in Knoxville. This year's field included 14 teams from Michigan to Florida and seemingly most states in between. Special thanks to our roster of Jamie Arrowsmith, Adam Crabtree, Scott Henry, Steve Horsfield, Amelia Loge, Heather Loge, Tim McCann, Carlos Rodriguez who were kind enough to put up w/me and some extremely challenging competition all weekend. Adam, Scott and Tim were playing in their first tournaments ever and did very well. Amelia and Heather played much of the weekend against non-coed/men's teams and had no difficulty whatsoever making many stellar plays on both the offensive and defensive ends of the pool. Unfortunately the competition was tough and even though it was an invitational teams were still playing for CWPA rankings, etc. We opened against #1 seed & eventual champ Michigan and th! e scores were less than kind:

UM 20 - Akron 2
Dynamo 14 - Akron 3
Ohio State 9 - Akron 2
Georgia Tech 10 - Akron 2
