PORTFOLIO REVIEW DAY INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in the Myers School of Art at The University of Akron.  We invite future students to participate in our Portfolio Review Day on Saturday, February 18, 2006 from 9 a.m. to noon. (Note: the Portfolio Review Day previously scheduled for November 19, 2005, has been moved to February 18, 2006.)

During the program, you can:
• Tour our outstanding art facilities — including studios, galleries and classrooms. • View the work of current students. • Receive information and handouts about the Myers School of Art. • Meet students, faculty, staff, and alumni. • Receive academic advising about majors, minors, requirements, and more.

On February 18 you can also participate in
Portfolio Reviews by faculty members to determine your eligibility for art scholarships for your first year, and to receive helpful feedback about your work. (Scholarships are potentially renewable.)

You may show up to 10 pieces of original artwork. For each piece, write a sentence or two stating what the work is about and what you think is successful about it. We recommend that you show your understanding of:
    • Observational skills: drawing from life (not from photographs) the human figure, still life, landscape, self portrait.     • Craftsmanship: technique, handling of materials, presentation     • Design skills: development of the page, rendering of composition, color and value     • Creativity: clear concept, originality

You must include a copy of your recent transcript — even if you've already sent a copy to the Admissions Office.

If you have any questions, please contact Susan McKiernan at 330-972-5959 or susan27@uakron.edu. You do not have to be here the entire time, but we will be available between 9 a.m. and noon. If you can’t attend, you may send your work on CD or slides.

Portfolio Review Day will be held at the Myers School of Art in Folk Hall, 150 East Exchange Street, Akron, Ohio. Convenient free parking is available, and there will be a waiting area for families. You do not need to schedule an appointment. . We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, February 18, 2006!

Susan McKiernan, Assistant Director, Myers School of Art, The University of Akron
