Sherry Simms is a native of Akron, Ohio where she received her BFA in
Metalsmithing from the University of Akron in 1992. Shortly after
graduation, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she ran a prod-uction jewelry business for 5 years prior to attending the State Univer-sity of New York at New Paltz to receive her MFA in Metalsmithing. After ten years, Sherry has returned to Akron and is currently an assist-ant professor and the coordinator of the metals and jewelry program here at The University of Akron. She has previously taught in the metals programs at the State University of New York in New Paltz, and at The University of Oregon in Eugene.
Sherry received an Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellow-ship in 1993. Her work has been widely exhibited and has won various awards both regionally and nationally. Recent shows
include: Transmutations: Recent Jewelry and Other objects by Sarah Hood, Heidi Schwegler,
Sherry Simms, Sarah Turner at the Glass Gallery of The Univer-sity of Texas at El Paso; Vanity of Vanities, at the NML Gallery of Cardinal Stritch University in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and 21st
Century Metalsmiths: Individual and Collaborative Works at the New Art Center in Newton,
Massachusetts. Her work also appeared in the Metalsmith magazine special edition
Exhibition in Print 2000.
