1. BFA students must have completed all of the prerequisites prior to enrolling in the Foundations Review.
2. Students must register for this review the semester after completing the prerequisites for the Foundations Review.
3. Students will recieve review forms and guidelines at the first class session.
4. Materials required:
a. Completed Foundations Review forms.
b. Most recent grade transcript printed from the web.
c. 7100:131 Introduction to Drawing- 4 best works. Be prepaired to identify and discuss the visual properties of the work (succh as formal elements, perspective, ellipses, values, composition, use of materials, color, technique, craft, etc.). Consider these properties when selecting your work.
d. 7100:144 Two Dimensional Design- 2 best works. Be prepaired to discuss the goals and objectives of the assignments. Observation skills-can you identify and discuss the visual properties of the work (formal elements, materials, color, techniques, craft)? Composition and spatial relationships: how do the visual properties of the work effect our perception? Creative use of materials: how does the selection of materials meet your design goals? Craft: successful use of tools and processes to achieve a design goal or effect.
e. 7100:145 Three Dimesional Design- 2 best works. Be prepaired to discuss the goals and objectives of the assignments. Observation skills-can you identify and discuss the visual properties of the work (formal elements, materials, color, techniques, craft)? Composition and spatial relationships: how do the visual properties of the work effect our perception? Creative use of materials: how does the selection of materials meet your design goals? Craft: successful use of tools and processes to achieve a design goal or effect.
f. 7100:233 Life Drawing- A stack of in-claass studies including your 5 best full-legnth figure studies in varied poses, one life-sized protrait or head study, sketch book. Be prepaired to discuss growth and development of confidence and accuracy of drawing the figure (rendering ability, gesture, naturalized pose, vertical and horizontal alignment, and proportion. Discuss the stregnth and weaknesses in your ability to draw the figure.
5. Student who do not bring all of the above materials will FAIL the review.
6. Reviews will be conducted by committe of three full-time faculty members during each fall and spring semester. Each committee will have one vote with a majority needed for approval.
7. Reviews will last 45 minutes.
a. Students will discuss the materials required for the review from each prerequisite class with their faculty committees for approximately 30 minutes.
b. Faculty will confer about the review for approximately 10 minutes.
c. Faculty will discuss the results of review with the student for approximately 5 minutes.
8. Students will recieve grade of Credit or Non-Credit.
9. An evaluation will be given to each student indicating stregnths and weaknesses in specific areas. Faculty memebers will make written comments. They may recommend or require that certain classes be taken or repeated or suggest other corrective measures.
10. Students must pick up the results of their reviews in the art office within five days of the review.
11. If a student does not recieve credit for the review, it may be repeated twice for a total of 3 reviews.
12. If the review is failed on the third attempt, the student will be dropped from the BFA program but may elect to pursue the BA degree program in another course of study.
13. If students do not register for or attend their review, they will FAIL the review.
14. Appeals Process: Students who have been reviewed may schedule an appointment with their committee members to discuss the work they submitted and the committee's findings. Committee members must be contacted directly.
