7100: 131 INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING
Course Description: Introduction to drawing materials and techniques with an emphesis on observation, representation, and formal principles of composition and design.
Rationale: The ability to perceive and represent what one observes is an essential skill in the development of any art student. The experience of drawing provides students with a base of design skills, a foundation for aesthetic judgement and an introduction to craftsmanship.
Course Objectives:
1. To develop critical vision with emphesis on observational drawing.
2. To learn to make objects appear three-dimensional on a towo-dimensional surface.
3. To learn to make a two-dimensional page into a three-dimensional space.
4. To learn at the relationship both within and between objects.
5. To learn that drawing is a decision-making process involving looking, thinking, and intense concentration.
6. To develop a sense of craftsmanship.
7. To learn to give and accept constructive criticism and to be critical of one's own drawing devices.
