7100: 210 VISUAL ARTS AWARENESS
Course Description: A lecture course providing appreciation and understanding of various types/periods of art with emphasis on topics and infuences on societies, rather than on historical sequences.
Rationale: To provide students with exposure to art of various types and periods, emphasizing topics and catagories rather than historical sequence, so that an appreciation of these forms and their places in a society can be established.
Course Objectives:
1. To understand the formal elements and principles of art.
2. To be able to conduct a formal analysis.
3. To promote critical thinking.
4. To reinforce the idea that art forms are different, but not dissimilar and that art is not seperate form society and its issues.
5. To consider evaluation of artistic accomplishment within the context of standards set by the society in which the art was made.
6. To analyze techniques involved in various art forms so that the student can better understand the role of an artist in any given period.
7. To promote understanding and tolerance for social differences.
