MOCK INTERVIEWING

Like mock turtle soup, mock interviewing is not the "real thing" but can certainly nourish the psyche with confidence while feeding the existing skills base with practical experience.

You can never practice interviewing too much!  This is why we suggest you attend as many career fairs and practice, or mock, interviewing sessions as possible before your last year as a student.

Mock interviewing gives you a chance to receive immediate feedback from qualified personnel regarding your interviewing skills before you journey out on your own for those sessions that really will impact your career.  Think about scheduling NOW!

GETTING READY
  • You cannot research a fantasy company, but you can be ready with conversation that would apply to numerous companies within a specific field.
  • Practice with another individual or with a mirror to be comfortable answering questions concerning yourself.
  • Just as you would for a "real" interview, make sure you are rested and prepared!
  • Dress and groom yourself accordingly--Ladies, watch that jewelry.  Gentlemen, watch that cologne.
  • Arrive earlier than your scheduled interview time.
  • Bring briefcase with extra copies of resume and a portfolio if available.
  • If providing a portfolio, be thoroughly prepared to discuss its contents.
  • If taping is offered, bring a blank VHS tape for later viewing of your performance.
  • During evaluation, pay close attention to performance.  Insist on constructive criticism.
  • Ask for interviewer's card for correct address when sending thank you--yes, do send a card even for a mock interview--remember, practice makes perfect!
