Olin Hall 326b, 330/972-6207 James
Egan has been a member of the UA family since he joined the Department
of English in 1971, where he continues to teach the literature of such
diverse greats as Milton, Marvell, and Donne, as well as Joyce Carol Oates,
Shirley Jackson, and Stephen King. In the late 1980's, Egan realized
there was a substantial need for English majors to be better prepared for
the world of work after completing academic studies. In 1990, he began
the English Department Careers Program to underscore the belief
that, when properly prepared, there is a truly prosperous and productive
life awaiting liberal arts majors after graduation. In 1997,
with the approval of Dean Roger Creel, Egan expanded the program to provide
services for two of the three College divisions, Humanities and Social
Sciences. The departments of the third division, Natural Sciences,
joined the Program's existing members in December 2000, resulting in a
consortium comprised of all eighteen departments
of Buchtel
College of Arts and Sciences. Together with the Assistant Director,
Egan makes career-related services available to approximately 2,500 students.

Olin Hall 325b, 330/972-6498 Jo
Anne Stewart became involved with the A&S
Careers Program in 1994 as a graduate student working on her Master's
degree in English. Together with the Program Director, Stewart helped
grow the Program from a single department service provider to a facility
geared to helping students from all three of the College's divisions.
She provides such career-related services as instruction in document preparation,
interviewing skills, job search techniques, networking instruction, portfolio
building and internship participation. Stewart also works with alumni
to develop department-specific "What To Do With A Degree In. . . ." workshops.
