Description:
The Ruth B. Lewis Memorial Scholarship was created through gifts given in
memory of Dr. Lewis, who served on the faculty of The University of Akron
School of Communication from 1966 until her death in 1992. A vibrant,
energetic professor who was deeply committed to her students, Dr. Lewis
developed the School's mass media and film curriculum and was the first
head of the department of mass media communication.
This scholarship will assist a deserving student who is majoring in
Communication, and who is an active participant in The Association for Women in
Communications or the League of Black Communicators. Applicants should
maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average. The recipient will be selected annually
by the advisors for The University of Akron chapters of The Association for
Women in Communications and the League of Black Communicators in
coordination with the Scholarship Committee Chair of the School of Communication.
Funding Arrangements:
The scholarship is being established with gifts received in memory of Dr. Lewis.

Contributions to the Ruth B. Lewis Scholarship are to be directed to and
managed in an account with The University of Akron Foundation, tax-exempt
receiving agent for The University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325.
