KKY & TBS

The University of Akron Marching Band is proud of its two national honorary band service organizations - Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity and Tau Beta Sigma sorority. Their goals are "not only to provide the bands with organized and concentrated service activities, but to give our membership valid and wholesome experiences in organization, leadership, and social contacts."

Chapter responsibilities include numerous service projects, as well as providing the intangible items of morale, spirit, enthusiasm, atmosphere, and positve attitude within the band. Their hard work and service is continually demonstrated in projects such as providing lunches during band camp, providing and serving refreshments after band concerts, assembling special Pep Bands, working for the Ohio Band Directors Conference, and publication of the "Band Blast."

Membership in KKY and TBS is open to anyone who has completed one semester in a UA Band. Candidates participate in a membership candidacy of eight weeks before becoming "active." Meetings are held once a week, leaving time for studies and other co-curricular activities. Like all active members, candidates must show their interest and desire to serve the UA Bands.

Nationwide, KKY and TBS includes 250 chapters on 150 campuses with more than 4,500 active members. UA's chapters have a combined membership of over 20 men and women.
