Tyler Carpenter
A native of Jacksonville,
Illinois, Tyler Carpenter is a
2004 graduate of South Dakota
University. He received a
bachelors degree in music
education from SDSU while
studying percussion with Jim
McKinney and Stephen Tobin.
Tyler's marching percussion
experience includes five seasons
in SDSU's "Pride of the Dakotas"
drumline, acting one year as a
section leader. He has
also served on the instructional
staff of several award-winning
marching programs in the upper
Midwest, including Brandon
Valley High School and Sioux
Falls Washington High School.
As a performer, Tyler was a
finalist in the 2004 MTNA
regional solo competition held
in Boulder, Colorado. He
was also the featured soloist
with the Midwest Music
Ambassadors' European Tour in
2003 and 2005, and will be
touring again with the
Ambassadors in the summer of
2007. Tyler is also an
accomplished electric bass
player, performing with various
jazz and rock groups.
In the summer of 2006, Tyler
completed his masters degree in
percussion performance at The
University of Akron and is
currently pursuing a masters in
music history. He is in
his first year as percussion
arranger and instructor with The
University of Akron Marching
Band.
