Lazarus Walter Macior

1926-2007

A prolific scientist and inspirational teacher, Dr. Walt Macior had lasting impacts on many researchers and students. He had special interests in the plant genus Pedicularis (louseworts), and in bumblebees. The Department of Biology and the University of Akron are saddened by his loss, and we have tried to gather some items about him here.

Other:

• Established two scholarships for graduate study in botany; the Lazarus Walter Macior Graduate scholarship in Botanty and Plant Sciences, and  the Alice and Walter Macior Award in Plant Sciences for students. The latter scholarship is named in honor of his parents. Documents related to that scholarship indicate that Dr. Macior credited his mother with introducing him to the study of plants and instilling in him an appreciation of botany.
