Akron Biology Classes augmented by forms of multimedia lectures and web-based materials

The Department of Biology at the University of Akron is taking a lead in presenting courses in a variety of new methods including the use of multimedia presentations, web-based interactive course work, and inquiry-based teaching methods.   These new teaching techniques allow a variety of combinations of text, full-color pictures, movies, animations, and sound into an integrated whole using computer-generated presentations. This "cutting edge" instructional technology is being promoted throughout campus, and the Department of Biology is at the forefront of this exciting change. Over 90% of the students queried in these multimedia/inquiry-based classes find this new presentation style superior to the more traditional formats. The Department of Biology, and the University in general, will continue to add multimedia/inquiry-based courses to its program. The following classes are either partially or completely taught using these types of instruction.
