UA STUDENT'S MEDICAL DEVICE, BUSINESS PLAN TAKE PRIZE
Akron Beacon Journal - April 6, 2004
A team of University of Akron students who formed a company to develop a time-controlled device that will deliver drugs through the blood vessels won the Third Annual Business Plan Competition on Saturday.
The team -- Deenu Kanjickal, Pritam Das and Dave Young of Polymeric Drug Delivery Systems LLC -- also received $3,000.
Forty percent of the judging by a local panel of entrepreneurs was based on the written business plans and 60 percent on oral presentations.
Second place and $2,000 went to Tidal Gardens, a company founded by Than Thein and Mike Anderson, which will cultivate and sell coral.
Third place and $1,000 went to the team of Charla Hill, Ozgu Ozturk, Anthony Moraco and Villiappan Subbaiah of Molecular Constructs LLC. The company developed a new group of polymers that will allow for the development of products, including new LED displays, and can also be used for drug delivery.
