UNIVERSITY-WIDE
The University of Akron has demonstrated a strong entrepreneurial orientation. The core academic programs are housed within the nationally ranked Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, which is housed in the College of Business Administration. The University of Akron's Entrepreneurship Program was ranked in the top tier of regional schools in entrepreneurship education in Entrepreneur magazine’s 2004 and 2005 rankings. The ranking in the April 2005 issue placed UA’s Entrepreneurship Program in the top 60 programs out of over 825 schools. (Top 100 Entrepreneurial Colleges)
Despite being housed in the College of Business, all entrepreneurship courses are available for any student to take throughout the University. Furthermore, there are several entrepreneurial initiatives that are occurring throughout the campus, including the College of Law, College of Fine and Applied Arts, and Technology Transfer Center.
One of the goals of the University of Akron’s entrepreneurship program is to reach every student on campus either through coursework, student club activities, business plan competitions, an awards banquet, student recognition, scholarships, mentorships, and internships. There is a heavy emphasis on experiential learning.
