WHAT IS A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR?

Students commonly ask, "What is entrepreneurship?" and ,"What can your program do for me?" Entrepreneurship is more of an opportunity seeking behavior. It is an attitude that can be taught and used in any “for profit” or “non-profit” organization, not just for starting a business. Whether you are interested in starting a business, buying a franchise or small business, expanding your current business, working for a large corporation or a small fast growth company, working for your family business or working in a non profit organization, studying entrepreneurship, you will be one step ahead of the competition. Why?

The University of Akron ’s Entrepreneurship Program allows you to gain knowledge and skills which will be extremely useful in the marketplace. These include marketing, negotiations, finance, relationship building, law, management, accounting, and creativity). Through the program you will also learn how to write a business plan and a feasibility study which are necessary for you to obtain financing for your proposed idea, and which also make you more marketable in the business world.

How can you measure whether someone is a successful entrepreneur? You need to look at what that individual is currently doing. How are they using their knowledge and skills? Are they utilizing all of the possible sources of information (e.g., advisory board, SBDC, SCORE) which will assist them in the marketplace? Are they making an impact where they are working? Are they coming up with new ideas/opportunities? New markets? New ways to cut costs? New products?

The University of Akron’s Entrepreneurship Program has trained a wide variety of successful students to build their family business, start a business, acquire a franchise or small business, work for a small business, be entrepreneurial within a large corporation, or work for a non-profit organization.
