The Testing Services administers several placement tests for Academic Advising services.  Placement tests are done by appointment during the hours we are open(8-5, M-F).  Note that we are open Tuesday evenings in the Fall and Spring until 8:00PM.    Placement tests include the following

Math Placement Testing is  done via computerized Compass testing.  There is one terminal in the Testing Services office for math placement testing (mostly for testing persons with disabilities), but most of the the math placement testing takes place at Computer Based Assessment and Evaluation.  Call CBAE at 972-6511 or go to the following web page:  Computer Based Assessment and Education. for more information.  CBAE is located at Carroll Hall 325.

Language Placement Testing is available for French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Latin. Students who score well on these tests may be advanced to the first to fifth semester of language courses. After passing (C or better) the language course in which they were placed, students receive credit for all preceding courses. The registrar does charge a fee to place the hours on your transcript. If your score indicates a 301 level course then you should go to the Modern Languages Department to find out what course to take.

Students may place into advanced language courses without testing.

  1. If a student has two or less years of a course they would normally start in the 101 section.
  2. With three years of high school language and good grades (B+ or A) the student should enroll in 201. With less than these grades the student should enroll in 102.
  3. With four years of a high school language you might want to start with 202.
  4. You always have the option of talking to the instructor and/or taking the Language Placement Test.

Writing and Reading Placement Tests are now done via computerized Compass testing.  There is one terminal in the Testing Services office for reading and writing placement testing but most of the the  placement testing takes place at Computer Based Assessment and Evaluation.  Call CBAE at 972-6511 or go to the following web page:  Computer Based Assessment and Education. for more information.  CBAE is located at Carroll Hall 325.
