Preparing Students for Successful Careers in the Business of the ArtsThe Masters Degree program in Arts Administration at The University of Akron was founded in 1980. Since that time, over 50 students have completed the degree. The program is housed in the School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. The curriculum of this forty-five-credit, two year degree is designed to prepare students for successful careers in all disciplines of the not-for-profit arts. The strength of the program lies in a commitment to balancing theoretical study in the classroom with application through practical experiences and internships. Each year up to ten students are selected for admission. It would be difficult to describe a "typical" Arts Administration student at The University of Akron. Classes are made up of people of all ages, from countries all over the world, and with a wide variety of cultural, educational, and practical backgrounds. What all students in this program share is a passion for developing the skills essential for creating an environment in which the arts and culture can thrive. |
