Preparing Students for Success

As part of one of the major universities in the State of Ohio, the Dance Program at The University of Akron's School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration offers students a unique opportunity of traditional technical training combined with an academic program leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree, Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree or BA in Dance with a Business Cognate. These degrees prepare students for:

  • performing;
  • graduate studies in the fields related to dance such as arts administration, dance history, physical therapy, dance therapy, dance education or dance ethnology; and
  • teaching in private studios.

A fifth-year option in both degree programs is available in which students can be licensed to teach dance in public schools, grades pre-K through 12.

Whether the goal is to perform with a professional company, to teach the technical or academic aspects of the discipline, or to continue intellectual pursuit in the art of dance, the dance program is superbly equipped to prepare students in both the physical and intellectual areas of the dance discipline.
