Brother Delts,

Renewed vigor! This is the best two word summary I can use for the "State of Eta Chapter." Most of you know that I have never minced words when it comes to my comments regarding the chapter. These young men have pulled their act together! This is not to say that they didn't have a long climb ahead of them; however, they are well on their way.

Early this year we activated three fine new brothers Eric Kensicki, Andy Kiko, and David Wehner with over a 3.3 average GPA. We finished second academically in the fall, exceeding the 2.51 IFC average and the 2.61 all men's average. By the second week of this semester we had 5 pledges, with plans of adding more. Also, chapter finances are doing much better, resulting in us being current with national's, paying off all of our operating expenses, and the reduction or housing debt continuing on our plan.

The division conference was in Indianapolis this year. It is nice to know that all the hard work these young men are putting into the chapter is being recognized. I heard more positive comments regarding Eta then I've heard in a long time. One other piece of news is that Northern divisions newly elected president is James P. Kappel and the treasurer is Thomas P. Hanson.

Alumni Volunteers: The John Fisher Alumni Volunteer Conference is August 13 - 15, 1999. This is the second time this type of event has been held. The first was two years ago with Denny Walder & myself attending. If you have any interest in being involved with a chapter, this is a great way to start.  Please, please contact myself, at my address below, for information regarding the conference or involvement in general.

We have had several random visits from ancient alumni, including Tom Kirky.  This always brings a smile to the undergraduates (but please keep the war stories to a minimum). You are all welcome to stop by the shelter for a visit. The house corporation continues to do the most with the resources it has, under the guidance of Rob MacKay and Craig Teetor president and
treasurer.  I know that I have "painted pictures of Eta" before and I don't want this one to be exceptionally utopian. The future holds a long hard road for Eta, but this group of men appear to be up to the task. Also, I am pleased that our international president Dr. Tom Huddleston, 1st vice president Dr. Robert Roush, chapter consultants, and other office staff share my optimism.

Thank you and all of the alumni for your continued support. You are truly "Committed to lives of excellence."

Fraternally,

Joe Kolp
