July 31- August 14, 2003.

The Teachers Exchange:
Dr. Sucan Colville-Hall organized the program and 3- credit hours workshop and escorted 14 participants from Columbus, Cleveland, and Akron, Ohio, to Alajuela and Heredia, Costa Rica. The trip to Costa Rica was a short, two weeks long, but with emphasis on the study of the Costa Rican culture and the education system. Home stays, school visits and excursions provided participants a rich exposure to Costa Rican culture. The workshop helped participant increase their language proficiency and allowed them to create content-based lessons for their won students. These lessons are available on this website for use by all l Spanish teachers.Goals:
The goal of the trip was to develop intercultural competence by living with a Costa Rican educator and their family to learn first hand about Costa Rican society, their educational system and the rainforest. We visited schools and experienced learning in the field. For the variety of opportunities participants experienced, view the photos albums. The second goal was to promote future teacher and student exchanges between Costa Rica and the United States.
Successes:
Several teachers made plans for future exchanges: hosting Ticos in January 2004 and taking their won American students to Costa Rica in March and/or June 2004.
