Field Experience
Master's in Instructional Technology

Course Rationale

This course combines flexibility with rigor. It is unlikely that any two students will start this Field Experience course at exactly the same place. Therefore, the challenge for the faculty advisor is to be sure that professional growth is occurring and that the student is actively seeking opportunities to apply what has been learned and to expand their skills and knowledge. It is the students’ responsibility to make the case that the Field Experiences they select and document are achieving these goals.

Course Objectives

The student will:

  1. Demonstrate skills in a technology support program appropriate to the clientele and institution or district it serves.
  2. Develop strategies that can be used with education personnel in their acceptance and implementation of new technologies.
  3. Investigate and document the budgeting process for technology in your organization.
  4. Investigate funding sources and develop grants
  5. Develop and implement activities that use technology resources in instruction
  6. Investigate and document the process of technology evaluation in the organization
  7. Investigate equity issues that are affected by technology.
  8. Investigate and document policies and practices related to the social, legal and ethical uses of technology in your organization.
  9. Investigate and document approaches to technology integration in your organization.

Submission of Field Experience Binder

The FE Binder hard copy is due to your adviser at LEAST two weeks before the end of the term in which you want it graded, to allow time for grading and revision. Field Experience can be given an IP (In progress) grade if you want to do the work over two terms. If you have questions about any sections of the binder, please contact your adviser for discussion before the final submission. Binders not meeting the criteria will be returned for revisions. Early submissions are recommended. Binders can be dropped off at Zook Hall’s Educational Foundations and Leadership Office (Room 301) or given directly to your advisor.
