Schedule of Sessions for the English for Academic Purposes Program

The English Language Institute offers three EAP sessions each year according to The University of Akron academic calendar. The 15-week Fall semester begins in late August; the 15-week Spring semester begins in January; the 8-week Summer session begins in June.

Fall 2009: August to December (15 weeks)
August 17 to 21 Register for ELI Classes in the ELI Office in 302 Olin Hall
August 24 1. Join your ELI teachers and classmates at a Welcome Reception
2. Tour The University of Akron campus
3. Take English placement tests
August 25 Take English placement tests
August 26 Receive your Class Schedule and Book List
August 27 Begin ELI Classes
November 26-27 Celebrate Thanksgiving: No ELI or University Classes
December 2 Attend your last day of ELI Classes for the fall session
December 3 and 4 Take the ELI-ASSET Test
December 7 1. Take the ELI TOEFL
2. Celebrate your English skills at the Final Party
December 9 Meet with your ELI advisor to receive your grades and TOEFL score


Spring 2010: January to May (15 weeks)
January 4 to 8 Register for classes in the ELI Office in 302 Olin Hall
January 11 1. Join your ELI teachers and classmates at a Welcome Reception
2. Tour The University of Akron Campus
3. Take English placement tests
January 12 Take English placement tests
January 13 Receive your Class Schedule and Book List
January 14 Begin ELI Classes
January 18 Observe Martin Luther King Day: No ELI or University classes
February 16 Observe Presidents' Day: No ELI or University classes
March 15 through March 19 Enjoy Spring Break: No ELI or University Classes
April 28 Attend your last day of ELI Classes
April 29 and April 30 Take the ELI-ASSET Test
May 3 1. Take the Paper-Based TOEFL
2. Celebrate your English skills at the Final Party
May 5 Meet with your ELI advisor to receive your grades and TOEFL score


Summer 2010: June to August (8 weeks)
May 31 to June 4 Register for ELI Classes in the ELI Office in 302 Olin Hall
June 7 1. Join your ELI teachers and classmates at a Welcome Reception
2. Take English placement tests
June 8 1. Tour The University of Akron campus
2. Receive your Class Schedule and Book List
June 9 Begin ELI Classes
July 4 Observe the U.S. Independence Day: No ELI Classes
July 28 Attend your last day of ELI Classes for the summer session
July 29 and 30 Take the ELI-ASSET Test
August 2 1. Take the ELI TOEFL
2. Celebrate your English skills at the Final Party
August 4 Meet with your ELI advisor to receive your grades and TOEFL score
