TRAVEL AWARDS



The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues is sponsoring a competition for graduate student travel awards. The purpose of the Travel Award program is to help psychology graduate students travel to the SPSSI Conference to present their papers. Twelve students will receive this $100 award to support their travel to the conference in Cleveland, OH. 


DEADLINE: December 15, 2001, 5:00pm Eastern Time

ELIGIBILITY:

  1. Applicants must be enrolled full-time and be in good standing in a graduate program in psychology, social work, nursing, or related program at a regionally accredited university or college located in the United States or Canada.
     
  2. To apply for the award, interested students should include a cover letter expressing an interest in these awards when submitting posters for review. Multiple author submissions are acceptable, but the student applicant must be the designated presenter of the research. If there are multiple student authors, only the first author may apply for these funds.
     

APPLICATION PROCESS:

  1. Conference program staff will examine all applications for eligibility.
     
  2. When submitting a poster for presentation, applicants must include the following:
     
    1. 1-page maximum typed cover letter describing your research interests and experience, as well as career plans.
       
    2. 2-page maximum summary of the research to be presented. Please do not submit a list of references with your summary (although you may choose to include citations in the text).
       
    3. 2-page maximum Curriculum Vitae including scientific publications and presentations (the Curriculum Vitae may contain only highlights and may not be a complete version).
       
    4. 1-page maximum letter of recommendation from your academic advisor or professor. It is unnecessary to enclose this letter in a sealed envelope; however, if your advisor/professor prefers to do this, please be certain that she or he also prepares three (3) additional copies of the letter to submit with your application (original + 3 copies should be enclosed in the same envelope). PLEASE NOTE: The maximum length of the recommendation letter is 1-page. Please communicate to the faculty member who will write your recommendation letter the importance of adhering to this maximum page limit. In addition, please do not submit more than one letter of recommendation; only one will be for reviewed.
       
  3. All application materials should be submitted in triplicate.
     
  4. Decisions will be based on the quality of the submitted information.
     
  5. Award recipients will be announced in early January. Funds will be provided directly to the students following the announcement of the award recipients.
     
  6. By March 1, 2002 each award recipient must submit a copy of the final presentation.
