Andrew McFarland—Masters Student—Geology and Environmental Science

Andy is an Ohio native and a graduate from Mount Union College. He is interested in vertebrate paleontology and his project centers around mastodons and mammoth populations in Ohio and their paleopathology.

Matthew Kemp—Masters Student—Geology and Environmental Science

Matt is from Mansfield. His research project focuses on reconstructing the paleoenvironmental history of Bath Nature Preserve, Bath, Ohio. He is using cores and multi-proxy indicators to determine land-use changes for the past 1000 years.

Emily Frank—Undergraduate—Honors Program Geology & Environ. Science

Emily is an Honors student from Canton, Ohio. She participated in a REU in Summer 2008 and her Honors Thesis project involves documenting changes in cyanobacterial communities in saline ponds on San Salvador Island, Bahamas.

Lab Members

We have a diverse lab group investigating exciting things. I have 3 PhD students, 4 masters students and 3 undergraduate students in my lab.  Read more about them and what they are doing.

Andy Michelson—PhD Student—Integrated Bioscience

Andy is an Akron native and graduate of Brown University with a degree in Biology and Geology. His research involves constructing a transfer function in order to apply it to paleoclimate records from lakes in the Bahamas.

Kenton Trubee—PhD Student—Integrated Bioscience

Kenton is a graduate of the College of Wooster (BA) and the University of Akron (MS). He is currently working on examining how ostracodes invaded non-marine environments —their history and physiological constraints.

Timothy Astrop—PhD Student—Integrated Bioscience

Tim is from the United Kingdom. He received his MS from Imperial College, London. His current research involves examining the morphological and molecular aspects of conchostracan evolution.

Mark Dalman—Masters Student—Geology and Environmental Science

Mark is from Massillon and got a BS in Zoology and Environmental Sceince from Miami (Ohio). His research involves examining hurricane records and paleonenvironmental change in Clear Pond, San Salvador Island, Bahamas.

Gary Motz—Masters Student—Geology and Environmental Science

Gary is from Cincinnati and graduated with a degree in Geology and Biology from the University of Dayton. His masters research project focuses on examining mollusks as they invaded continents via the estuarine gateways.
