Class Policies

Attendance:
Students are expected to attend all class meetings.

Withdrawal:
The last day to withdraw from this class is Friday, November 19, 1999
Make-up exams:
Contact the instructor before a scheduled test if unavoidable circumstances arise that prevent you from taking a test. Make-up exams are composed of ten essay questions.
 
Incomplete Grades:
You will not receive a grade of Incomplete (I) unless extreme circumstances arise that are brought to the instructor's attention at least two weeks before the end of the semester. University policy requires that you must be earning a passing grade to be eligible for an Incomplete
 
Enrollment
Students whose names do not appear on the university's official class list by September 13, 1998 will not be permitted to participate (attend class, take exams, or receive credit).

Grades & Exams

Grades will be calculated from a total of 1000 points. Points can be earned by:
Exams - four exams worth a total of 500 points. Exams are mostly made up of multiple choice questions but will include a few (3-5) short answer questions. Exams will cover material from lectures and readings. An optional comprehensive final exam can be taken to replace a lower score on any of the previous exams.
  • Exam 1 - Monday September 27
  • Exam 2 - Monday, October 25
  • Exam 3 - Monday, November 15
  • Exam 4 - Friday, December 10
  • Optional Final Exam - Friday, December 17, Noon-1.55 p.m.
Web Exercises - complete ten of fifteen exercise sets during the semester for 300 points. Additional information on exercises is available on the course website. Exercises must be completed within a specified time interval (usually 4 weeks).
In-class activities - complete daily multiple-choice reading quizzes (100 points; 3-4 questions per quiz) prior to class and participate in group exercises in class (100 points) based upon the material discussed that day.
