Emerging Leaders Community

The 2008-2009 Honors Complex Emerging Leaders Community

Benefits:
Approximately twenty-six students will be chosen for the 2008-2009 Leadership Community, which is housed on the Fifth Floor-North of the new Honors Complex.   Those participating in the Community move in to the Honors Complex about one week before the other students, and go through several days of leadership training before classes begin.  This is a special opportunity to make new friends in a unique learning community at the start of your college education. Faculty and staff involved have won awards for the leadership training done through this and a related Leadership Community in Ritchie Hall. Participants receive membership in America's #1 Residence Hall Programming Board-- and that is the one at UA!   In the past few years, applications have far exceeded the spaces available in this community, so applicants are encouraged to include as much detail as possible on your application.

Qualifications:
Students chosen for this Leadership Community must be members of the Honors College in good standing. Primarily first-year students, those in the Leadership Community will participate in a leadership class during the fall semester that will be held on Wednesdays, 3:20-5:00 p.m.   With the topic of developing leadership skills, students in this program are committed to a full year of Leadership Community/Major Events Committee Activities. Students must be able to arrive on campus one week early for Welcome Weekend/Residence Hall Orientation, 2008.

Applications were accepted through March 17. Since the due date has passed, applications are no longer being accepted for 2008-2009.

It is suggested that Honors College students also apply to the Emerging Leaders community in Ritchie Hall, located adjacent to the Honors Complex.  For information on Ritchie Emerging Leaders, contact Tom Faessel, Residence Life & Housing at (330) 972-6596.

Note that this community is quite selective, and the Honors office receives many applications.  You increase your chances for selection if you prepare your application carefully, and take care to list all your leadership background.

These forms may also be obtained by calling the Honors College office at (330) 972-7966.

Please send the Honors Complex Emerging Leaders Community application and letter of recommendation to:
