Graduation

The Honors College hosts a Honors Graduation Recognition event at the end of each semester.  This is a very special event to which parents and family members are invited, and is held on the Friday evening prior to the weekend of general University graduation ceremonies.

For spring, 2008, the event will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9. The ceremony will be held in UA's Quaker Square Inn in the Banquet Hall called “The Station.”  That building is a free-standing structure east of, but adjacent to, the main Quaker Square area, with address at 120 E. Mill Street in Akron. Students need to RSVP to the Honors Office (x7966) in order to attend. When making a reservation, please have the names of your guests for that evening as well.

If you plan to attend the spring, 2008, event, please complete the downloadable information sheet.  Note the RSVP box at the top of the sheet; this must be completed if you are attending the ceremony.  Please return this completed form to: Debbie Gannon, The University of Akron, Honors College, Honors Complex, Rm. 178, Akron, OH  44325-1803, no later than April 30, 2008.

Upon graduation, an Honors Program student is awarded the distinction of being a "University Honors Scholar" if that student has (1) maintained a 3.4 or above "graduation" GPA (which counts course repeats), (2) completed all three of the Honors Colloquia, and (3) and has completed the Senior Honors Project (2 or more credits) and received a a B or higher on that project. This distinction is included in the official university transcript. At the graduation ceremony, University Scholars wear a special medal and are the first to be called to stand for recognition as scholars.
