Special Homecoming Reception for Honors College Alumni- October 11, 2008

The Honors College Alumni Council would like to cordially invite you to the first annual Honors College Alumni Reunion on

Saturday, October 11, 2008, Noon-2:00 p.m.

in the Common Room of the Honors Complex at The University of Akron.

At this reunion, we hope to provide you with the opportunity to reconnect with former Honors students, catch up with Honors faculty and staff, learn about the ways that you can stay involved with the Honors College as an alumni member, and, most of all, continue to uphold our motto of a tradition of community.  You will also get an inside look at the Honors Complex, the new home of the Honors Residence Hall and Honors Office since 2004.  Refreshments will be provided.

Please RSVP to Elissa Ras by email at honorsga1@uakron.edu or by phone at 330-972-8430 by Thursday, October 9, 2008.  After the reunion, we encourage you to show pride in your alma mater and attend The University of Akron’s Homecoming Football Game at 6:00PM at the Rubber Bowl.  We hope that you are able to join us for this reunion, and we look forward to reminiscing with you!

Welcome, Honors Alumni!
Starting with our first graduating class of Honors Scholars in 1979, the Honors College has accumulated over 2,400 alumni to this day!  Whether you have graduated from the Honors College recently or years ago, you are undoubtedly a member of the honors alumni community.  As an alumna or alumnus, we hope that as you reflect back on your experience as an honors student you are able to recognize some ways in which your academic career has been enhanced by your affiliation with the Honors College.

Alumni Council

If you believe your Honors College experience has made a difference in your life and you would like contribute to that same kind of enhancement for other honors students, the Honors College welcomes you to become a member of the Honors Alumni Council!  With the creation of this council, we are hoping to strengthen our communication and connections with all of our alumni from the past and present.  We also hope to provide professional and interpersonal networking opportunities that may be beneficial for both Honors College alumni as well as current honors students.  Honors Council members may be involved in such activities as serving as interviewers for potential honors students, acting as mentors for current honors students, and recognizing current honors students for their academic efforts.

Honors College Alumni Web Pages

This site includes a list of all the University Honors Scholars since the Honors Colelge (Program) graduated its first class of scholars in spring of 1979, as well as those who have graduated and completed all Honors requirements. There are also pictures from many of the more recent graduating classes.

The University Honors Scholar designation applies to honors students who enroll and complete honors sections of several courses, the three Honors Colloquia seminars, and the Honors Research Project, all in good standing. Also, students with this designation have maintained a 3.4 or above "graduation" grade point average.
