The Honors College - A Tradition of Community
The University of Akron's Honors College supports an enriched education for curious, high-achieving students. This support includes special honors sections of many introductory classes, honors colloquia discussion classes for second-fourth year students, faculty advisors in the student's major, honors merit scholarships for many participants, and the current honors residence with private bathrooms, as well as personal academic/career advisors..
The Honors College provides a special intellectual community within a metropolitan university that offers a wide variety of academic disciplines. An Honors College student completes a major in one of the bachelor's degree-granting colleges, selects a set of Honors Distribution courses in place of the University's General Education Program, participates in a series of Honors Seminars (Colloquia), and creates a Senior Honors Project. The successful Honors Program student is recognized at graduation with an honors degree and the designation of University Honors Scholar.
The Honors Complex
Over 400 members of The University of Akron's Honors College are housed this fall in the Honors/Orr Complex, located near the heart of campus. Living and Learning is a reality as the Honors Complex includes a 300-bed residence hall and an academic learning center, plus the attached 120-bed Orr Residence Hall. The Honors Office is located on the first floor of the Complex. Honors students, particularly those who are not residents, are invited to make the Common Room your place to stay on campus while not in class.
