Honors Committees for current students

Beginning in fall semester, 2004, Honors is inviting current students to participate directly on some student-led committees for the program. Students are invited to join one of these committees by registering through the form provided below.

There are five proposed committees: (i) Honors Common Room Committee, (ii) Honors Computer Lab Committee, (iii) Parents Welcome Day Committee, (iv) Brownbag Discussion Group Committee, and (v) Community service committee.

Here is a brief description of the activities of each of these committees:

  • Honors Common Room Committee --The purpose of this committee would be to help set policy as to the use of this facility in the Honors Complex, as well as to keep order and cleanliness of the new Honors Common Room.
  • Honors Computer Lab Committee-This committee would work to set policy as to its use, discuss software and hardware options, as well as keep order and cleanliness of the new Honors Computer Lab.
  • Parents Welcome Day Committee--The Parents Welcome Day is a part of the residence hall programming, and this committee would work to provide extra input for families of honors students who live in the new Honors Complex. Programs, special greetings for families, etc., would all be part of this Committee’s assignment.
  • Brownbag Discussion Group Committee--One of the opportunities for programming that the new Honors Complex presents concerns discussions among Honors students. This committee would organize discussions, such as presentations by members of the university community, discussions of articles or books that the committee determines. If funding is available, books could be discounted for those interested.
  • Community Service Committee--This committee would publicize opportunities for community service for honors students, including “walks” for charity as well as more direct service. The committee would be responsible for connecting with community organizations, publicizing the events to the Honors students, and serving as leaders on the days of the events.

Please consider submitting the following form, joining one of the committees, and directly affect some part of the Honors Program.
