Study Abroad

Frequently Asked Questions:

(1) How much more does it typically cost to have a semester/year study abroad than to stay here at Akron to go to school?

The program fee varies according to the selected program. However, the fees for the full exchange programs are the same as studying at UA. Some others, such as the Mandarin language program in Xi'an, China, is less expensive than at UA!

(2) Do many students work while they are doing a study abroad?

Not many students work for pay while they are studying abroad. Some do internships before, after, or during their programs abroad. Others just go to work through an arranged cooperative education program abroad. These might be paid, such as students who teach in France. The College of Business has made really good progress in having students work abroad for U. S. companies.

(3) Which places have the highest selection by UA students?

Most students choose to study on short-term, faculty led programs. Recently a large number of students studied in London. The Biology department offers short-term programs in the Bahamas and also in Jamaica. These are very popular and academically challenging!

(4) Do you have a list of places where our students went to for a study abroad experience, not including the summer time?

Students may study for a semester or academic year in Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ghana, Israel (not recommended for this year), Mexico, The Netherlands, People's Republic of China, Peru, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, and the UK. UA also has an exchange program in Japan.
