University of Akron PPP Dial-In Access

To connect to the Internet using the University of Akron as your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you will need a UAnet ID. Please call the Technology Learning Support Center at 330-972-6888 if you need more information about obtaining a UAnet ID.

You will need to configure dial-up networking on your computer.

Dial-In Numbers If you have problems configuring a dial-up connection, contact the Technology Support Learning Center at 330-972-6888 or tlsc@uakron.edu

UA Virtual Private Network (VPN)

A VPN is a secured private network connection that is established over public information infrastructure, such as the Internet or telephone lines. Setting up the VPN Client allows UA faculty, staff & students to access all of the library's web-based online resources from off-campus.

To set up the VPN, you must have a valid UAnet ID. Please call the Technology Learning Support Center at 330-972-6888 if you need more information about obtaining a UAnet ID.

Attention AOL USERS: When the VPN is running, you will not be able to access library resources while using the AOL browser. You can connect to the Internet via AOL and establish a connection to the UA VPN, but you must use a non-AOL browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape to access online library resources. Contact the Technology Learning Support Center at 330-972-6888 for more details. If you have problems setting up the VPN, contact the Technology Support Learning Center at 330-972-6888 or tlsc@uakron.edu

OhioLINK Remote Authentication

OhioLINK allows you to access some (but not all) of their research databases by logging in and authenticating yourself as a current UA student, faculty or staff member. You will be asked to enter your name, barcode #, and Library PIN. You do not need to change any configurations on your computer to use OhioLINK Remote Authentication; however your browser must accept cookies.

Note to AOL Users:The AOL BROWSER does not always work with the OhioLINK Remote Authentication System. You can still use AOL to connect to the Internet, but should use a different browser, such as Netscape or Internet Explorer for Remote Authentication.

For assistance in using OhioLINK Remote Authentication, please call Library Systems (330-972-7240) or send a message to library-systems@uakron.edu.

For assistance in connecting to and/or searching the UA Libraries Catalog, OhioLINK, or research databases, please call the Bierce Library Reference Desk (330-972-7236) or Wayne College Library Reference Desk (330-684-8954).
