- In Fall 1998, Yankee Book Peddler was awarded the contract for the statewide approval and firm order plan for OhioLINK. This is the first attempt by any consortium to implement a statewide approval plan. The use of YBP as an approval vendor for individual OhioLINK libraries is optional.
- University Libraries decided to migrate from Blackwell to YBP's approval and firm order plan. Because their respective collections are smaller, the Law Library and the Wayne College Library do not participate in the YBP.
- Giving bibliographers the ability to have more control over when orders are processed, and allowing Acquisitions to continue to utilize the encumbering and accounting features of the Acquisitions module of INNOPAC were two main reasons UL decided to implement YBP's GobiSelect.
- Time Line:
Dec 1998 - April 1999 -- General planning sessions and completing profiles.
April - May 1999 -- Initial systems set-up (Extended Approval Plan Interface installed on system, creation of new load tables, default records, etc).
May - June 1999 -- Testing GOBI interface, new GobiSelect loader (MARC Loader without Invoice), and general GobiSelect Work flow.
July 1999 -- Systems conducted GobiSelect training sessions for bibliographers, Cataloging staff, and Acquisitions staff first week of July. GobiSelect process fully implemented 2nd week of July. Testing of YBP Approval and PromptCat loading processes.
August 1999 -- Complete implementation of YBP Approval and PromptCat loading processes.
- PromptCat at University Libraries
- At this time, UL only receives PromptCat records for YBP firm orders.
- PromptCat records for YBP firm orders are profiled for Library of Congress, monographs only, no labels -- "Plain Vanilla Approach".
- Invoice data is transmitted with each PromptCat load.
