Non-Profit Permit 222 (Standard
Mail / Bulk)
General Information:
To save time and labor, contact Mail Services
(x7585) for the most current mailing permit specifications so that
your mailing will be correct. Any mailing that is not in an envelope
must have the proper imprint on the mail piece. If the mailing does
not have the correct imprint on the mail piece, it will be the department's
responsibility to have the mailing hand-stamped with the imprint
needed.
Authorized Use
Information:
The Non-Profit permit it to be used by the University of Akron only.
Mailing Specifications:
A minimum of 200 pieces or 50 pounds total is required to qualify
for this permit rate. All pieces must be uniform in size and weigh
less than 16 ounces and be at least .007" thick. Mail pieces
over 4 1/4" by 6" in size, must be at least .009"
thick. Mail pieces must be presented to the Bulk Mail Facility in
Zip Code order.
All Non-Profit (Bulk Mail) must meet the following
guidelines. In additional if Bulk Mail Facilities will be printing
the addresses directly on the mail piece, then the SmartMail addressing
guidelines must also be followed.
Non-Profit (Bulk Mail) Guidelines

Minimum piece count for bulk mailing is

All mail pieces must be the same size,
weight and content. |

Address must be in zip code order (1st
to 5th digit of zip code.) |

Only domestic mail may be sent at Non-profit/Bulk
rate. |

|
Regular business envelopes (number 10)
that need to be sealed must have the flaps up. |

Invitation type envelopes and large envelopes
must be sealed by the department. |

Return address must have The University
of Akron spelled out completely. |

Place your department agency/org. number
under the return address. |

If your mail piece is not in an envelope,
use one of the imprints listed below in the stamp area. |

Processing time can take from 2 to 5 business
days. Large jobs may take longer. |
*Mail is processed on a first in, first out
basis. Be sure to add in the time needed to process your mailing
at Bulk Mail Facilities into your time schedule.

Section 623.51 of the USPS
Domestic Manual clearly limits the use of the imprint authorization.
This imprint is a special Standard Bulk mail imprint for University
of Akron mailings only. The University of Akron is "authorized
to mail only its own matter at those rates and may not lend,
delegate the use of it permit to mail at the special rates to
any other person or organization." |

Under Section 623.52 of the
USPS Domestic Mail Manual, it is stated that "cooperative
mailings may be made at the special bulk rates only when each
of the cooperative organizations is individually authorized
to mail at the special bulk rate at the US Post Office where
the mailings are deposited." Cooperative mailings are mailings
of any matter on behalf of, or produced for an organization,
or sponsored by an organization, not itself authorized to mail
at the special bulk rates at the US Post Office where the mailings
