Iodine: Notes

"The Goiter Belt" is a century-old nickname for the Great Lakes region that refers to the high incidence rate of Goiter that it possessed at one time. Today, the mandated use of iodized salt has eliminated this health hazard.

China, among other nations, has particularly low levels of indigenous iodine. It is estimated that 425 million people living here suffer from iodine deficiency.
