The
Summer Program
in the French Alps
The
Summer Program in the Alps was first run in 1987, and has been a popular
offering of the Department ever since. Also called the "Faverges
Program," it runs for six weeks from mid-May to late June. Students
who meet course prerequisites can register for classes and spend six
weeks in the Alpine town of Faverges,
near Geneva (Switzerland), and the French city of Annecy.

The
Summer Program
in Valladolid, Spain
The
Summer Program in Valladolid follows in the footsteps of the summer
2001 Costa Rica workshop, 2002 Santander Summer Program,
and 2004 Cuernavaca Program in Mexico.
After successful experiences in Valladolid in the summer of 2005,
2006, and 2008, the Department is running another session in Valladolid
in the summer of 2009; courses will be offered for up to six college
credits, and the program will last about five weeks. Like the Alps
Program, it offers exceptional value and the opportunity for our students
to live in a foreign culture.

The
Summer Program
in Henan, China
The
goal of this study abroad program is to enable participants to gain
the ability to function successfully in communicating in Chinese language
and culture. Through intensive study of Chinese language and culture
at Henan University, students can improve their Chinese communicative
competence in all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
In addition, the diverse exposure to the local community will enhance
students’ knowledge of modern Chinese society. Credit for the
summer study abroad program may be earned at both the undergraduate
and graduate levels. All participants will enroll at UA in Summer
Session I and will receive four (4) credits at The University of Akron
at the intermediate or advanced level.

Semester and year programs abroad
In addition to the
Summer programs above, The University of Akron's Office of International
Programs offers semester and year programs of study abroad. The OIP
helps students to register for courses in foreign universities in
countries
all over the world.
