COURSE DESCRIPTION AND GRADING PROCEDURES:

Course Format:
Most of the class time will be taken up by oral practice. Much of this
work will be done in pairs
and in small groups. You are expected to come to class having prepared
the daily assignments,
with any written assignment ready to hand in.
Grading Policy:
30% Chapter Tests (= 6% for each chapter test)
15% Final Written Exam
15% Final Oral Exam
15% Homework (e.g. short quizzes on vobulary homework, any other homework
given by your
instructor)
15% Participation
10% Attendance
Note: Submit your work in advance if you anticipate an excused absence. Unexcused absences will significantly lower your final grade.
* You will receive 2 participation grades during the semester. They will count for the overall participation grade, and will be based partly on your classroom participation and partly on the extent to which you are prepared to participate in the daily class work.

| Nov. 2-Nov. 16: | Chapter 11 |
| Nov. 18: | Test on Chapter 11 |
| Nov. 20-Dec. 9: | Chapter 12 |
| Dec. 11: | Test on Chapter 12 |
FINAL EXAM:
Thursday, December 17, 8:00-9:55 a.m.
Note: The Final Exam will NOT be given early; any make-up final exams will have to be scheduled AFTER the regularly scheduled final exam period. Only severe illness documented by a physician will be accepted as an excuse.
