Fall 1998 Syllabus

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND GRADING PROCEDURES:
Text:

Goals of German 202:
This course focuses on the further development of speaking, listening, writing and reading skills. A systematic overview of German grammar and exercises intended to increase vocabulary will be included. At the end of the course you should be able to respond to diverse communicative situations and topics of conversation. You should also have increased your knowledge of German culture and society.

Course Format:
Most of the class time will be taken up by oral practice. Much of this work will be done in pairs
and in small groups. You are expected to come to class having prepared the daily assignments,
with any written assignment ready to hand in.

Grading Policy:
30% Chapter Tests (= 6% for each chapter test)
15% Final Written Exam
15% Final Oral Exam
15% Homework (e.g. short quizzes on vobulary homework, any other homework given by your
     instructor)
15% Participation
10% Attendance

Note: Submit your work in advance if you anticipate an excused absence. Unexcused absences will significantly lower your final grade.

If your absences accumulate to one third or more of the whole semester, your overall course grade might result in an F. In case of an accident, major illness, etc. inform your instructor as soon as possible and provide written proof of inability to attend in order to avoid a deduction of points. Being late for class will also lower your attendance grade.

* You will receive 2 participation grades during the semester. They will count for the overall participation grade, and will be based partly on your classroom participation and partly on the extent to which you are prepared to participate in the daily class work.
