Student Receives Maison Française Award

Mrs. Politella and Jaime PalinchakCleveland, April 23:

French Major Jaime Palinchak was recognized today at a Maison Française de Cleveland ceremony for her performance in the annual Maison Française Essay Competition.

Ms. Palinchak received a Second Place award for her entry, which she wrote in a timed competition several weeks ago, competing against students from throughout Northeast Ohio. She received her award from Dr. Lucien Aubé and Mrs. Lillian Politella, who have been organizing this contest since its inception in 1976.


Spanish Major wins national competition

Akron, April 2006:

Laura CollinsWe are delighted to announce that Spanish major and Honors student Laura Collins is the department's latest winner of a nationally competitive Sigma Delta Pi summer scholarship for study abroad (Amanda Matousek preceded Laura in summer 2004). The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, room, and meals for a four-week course of study at the Universidad Internacional / The Center for Bilingual Multicultural Studies in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Sigma Delta Pi also provides a stipend that may be used toward travel to Mexico.

Laura will study at the Universidad Internacional from June 16 to July 17, 2006. [Also of note, she is planning to then spend some 10 weeks studying in Salamanca, Spain, during fall semester 2006.]

Summer 2006 study program in Spain to run

AKRON, March 2006 :

The Department is pleased to see that student interest in foreign study continues to be healthy. This coming summer's program in Spain has attracted a sufficient number of students to run.

This year, we will be running our suumer program in the Spanish city of Valladolid for the second year in a row. In recent years, the Department has also run study programs in Costa Rica, Santander (Spain), and Cuernavaca (Mexico). We will offer the summer program in Faverges again next year, summer 2007. Information about the Department's summer study abroad programs can be seen on our web pages.
