Prof.
Dejbord is recipient of two Teaching Awards
Akron,
April 24, 2008 - Congratulations to Dr. Parizad Dejbord on having been
selected as the recipient of the 2008 Buchtel College of Arts and
Sciences Teaching Award and also the 2008 UA Alumni Association
and Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost Outstanding Teacher
Award.
The
BCAS award carries an honorarium of $1,200 for the recipient and a $1,000
monetary payment to the department. The
Alumni award includes an honorarium of $1,000 for the recipient.
The
BCAS award will be presented at the A&S reception on Wednesday,
April 30, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in STUN 335.
The
Alumni Award will be presented at the Founder’s Day Luncheon on
May 2, 2008.

Students receive Maison Française prizes
Cleveland,
April 20, 2008 - Pictured at right with Maison Française president
Lillian Politella, UA students Jane Walter and Rebecca Wendeln received
prizes in the annual Maison Française de Cleveland competition.
Their
achievements competing against students from throughout Northeast Ohio
in a timed essay competition were recognized today in a ceremony at
the Cleveland Skating Club. The keynote speaker at the ceremony
was Prof. Robert Jeantet, who lectures on an annual basis at Maison
Française meetings on cultural and historical topics. The
students received their awards from Mrs. Lillian Politella, who has
been organizing this contest since its inception in 1976.

Cincinnati, May 2008 - UA Spanish part-time faculty and M.A graduate
Tatiana Jordan (University of Akron), presents “La mujer como
ente promotor de cambio a favor del medio ambiente en La loca de Gandoca
de Anacristina Rossi" at the 28th Cincinnati Conference on Romance
Languages and Literatures, to be held in Cincinnati, May 8-10, 2008.

part-timer publishes articles
Akron,
February 2008 - UA Spanish part-time faculty Brenda Ortiz-Loyola has
recently published the article "Colonizadores
y colonizados: las relaciones de poder con respecto a la raza, el género
y la clase social en Maldito amor de Rosario Ferré y su efecto
en la construcción de la identidad nacional"
in the Utah Foreign Language Review (2007) and has had the article "Bodas
de sangre de Federico García Lorca y Puñal de claveles
de Carmen de Burgos: dos versiones de una misma historia"
accepted for publication in 2008 by the journal
Céfiro
of Texas Tech University, Lubbock Texas.
Ms. Ortiz-Loyola was the third-place award winner for her presentation
"(Re)escribiendo la historia: un análisis de la perspectiva
femenina sobre la Guerra Civil española en La voz dormida de
Dulce Chacón" at the UA Graduate Gender Symposium in
2006.
