While working on her M.A., she had the opportunity to teach at the Université de Paris X, as well as for a number of American undergraduate abroad programs in Paris. Primarily an Enlightenment scholar, her other literary interests include the twentieth-century French and Italian novels, psychoanalysis, and French post-structuralist criticism. Upon defending her doctoral thesis, a study of Rousseau's Rêveries du promeneur solitaire, she earned her Ph.D. from Cornell in late 1996. |

Jeanne-Hélène "Nena" Roy was born
in Montemorelos, Mexico, and spent her childhood in Mexico City, New
Orleans, and La Rochelle, France. She began her university studies
in Angers, France, and completed her B.A. in French Literature in
1988 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She then went on
to join the Ph.D. program at Cornell University.
