NETWORK CONNECTIVITY FAQ's:
- What do I need to do to get a network connection installed?
- As of Jan. 1, 2005, Information Technology Services no longer charges for activation of network connections and has discontinued all monthly fees for network access.
If you require a new network connection, Network Services will provide you with a 100Mbps network connection at no charge to your department. For Network Services to provide you with a 100Mbps connection, there must be an available CAT5 or better cable and jack already existing near the location where you would like the new connection to be activated. Network Services no longer will install 10Mbps connections on telephone grade CAT3 of less wiring. If it is determined that the existing cabling will not support a 100Mbps connection, the Auxiliary Services Telecommunications department can install new wiring and a wall jack for approximately $350 per connection.
To request a new network connection, please fill out the form at this location:
Data Connection Request Form.
After we receive your request, network services will determine if new cabling is required, and if so, will instruct you to send a requisition to the Telecommunication Department to have the necessary cabling installed.
It is the department's responsibility to provide the CAT5 or better patch cable to go between the wall jack and the network device you are connecting to. These cables can be purchased from Computer Solutions in the Student Union.
Please contact Tom Bordonaro at x7958 or tbordon@uakron.edu, if you have any questions about this process.
