Strategy 3: Search for Details in Abstract Slides

After reading this explanation, click here: Abstract Images. With each slide ask students to describe what they see in as much detail as possible. These slides are common objects photographed in such a way that they are difficult to identify. While students are writing, ask them not to announce what they believe the abstract slides represent. Students can share their perceptions later.

After everyone has finished writing, compare descriptions and discuss the use of specific details. Generally, in this strategy, the more difficult the image is to identify, the more specific the descriptions of details become. If you repeat this exercise, a good source for abstract images is Games magazine. For years in each issue they featured a page of abstract images for readers to identify.
