Have students log onto the Yahoo Image Surfer at <http://gallery.yahoo.com/>. They will see six image categories:

Arts
Architecture, Landscapes, Painting

Entertainment
Comics and Animation, Rock and Pop

People
Actors and Actresses, Models

Recreation
Computer Games, Sports

Science
Animals, Space and Astronomy, Museums

Vehicles
Automobiles, Planes, Motorcycles

          Using a variation of Shaughnessy's assignment, ask students to pick a category, click on it, and examine at least ten images. After students formulate impressions from the images, have them write a short paper supporting one generalization about what they saw.

          If you wish to use this as a bonus assignment, you might have students download their images and create multimedia presentations combining pictures and text.
