What are the Admission Requirements for the Masters Program?

Individuals intending to enroll in the Masters Program must have a current Ohio state license as a registered nurse and evidence of malpractice insurance; and a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from an NLN accredited baccalaureate program. They must also complete all prerequisites; provide 3 letters of reference; write a 300 word essay; take the Graduate Record Examination (if the undergraduate GPA is less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale); and complete an interview with the Coordinator of the Graduate Program prior to admission.

What if my GPA is less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale?

For a GPA of 2.75 to 2.99 you can be admitted under a provisional admission status, pending the results of your GRE.
 
For a GPA of 2.5 to 2.74 you will be given a deferred admission status.  You will need to complete 3 post-baccalaureate courses, as designated by the Master's Admission Committee, at a 3.0 or higher.  Then you can apply for provisional admission, pending the results of your GRE
 
Applicants with a GPA of 2.49 are considered on a case-by-case basis, but admission may be denied.

What course do you recommend for the prerequisite statistics that are needed?

This course can be taken at any university, but the course we recommend here at The University of Akron is 3470:661 Statistics for the Life Sciences.  If take the course at another university, be sure that it is graduate level and the course description includes hypothesis testing.  You can call our graduate department at 330-972-7555 to check if you want assistance in the decision.

Does the university/college ever change program requirements?

Without limiting the generality of its power to alter, amend, or revoke rules and regulations, the University reserves the right to make changes in degree requirements of the student enrolled prior to the change by:
 
bullet Altering the number of credits and/or courses required in a major field of study
bullet Deleting courses
bullet Amending courses by increasing or decreasing the credits of specific courses or by varying the content of specific courses
bullet Offering substitute courses in same/or cognate fields
