Admission Procedure

All RN students must apply to Undergraduate Admissions for admission to The University of Akron as transfer students and are admitted directly to the College of Nursing as “prenursing” undergraduates.  College of Nursing advisers will guide the students through the prerequisite courses required and create a plan of study that will best meet the student’s needs.

As “prenursing” students, those in the RN progression programs will apply to enter the major through their College of Nursing Academic Adviser during a specified period to be considered for full admission into the nursing major.  Students must meet the minimum criteria listed below.

 
 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RN TO BSN 

§         Valid Ohio state license as a registered nurse

§         Undergraduate admission to The University of Akron and College of Nursing

§         A minimum Grade Point Average of 2.75 in prerequisite courses (All prerequisites must be completed by the end of spring semester)

§         Maintenance of a “C” or above in all prerequisite courses

§         Courses taken at other colleges may be used to satisfy prerequisite requirements.  Grades of equivalent transfer courses are combined with those earned at The University of Akron in the   computation of the admission GPA

enrolled prior to the change by:

o         Altering the number of credits and/or courses required in a major field of study

o         Amending courses by increasing or decreasing the credits of specific courses

o         Offering substitute courses in the same or cognate fields
