Community Health Care Clinics

The University of Akron Center for Nursing operates nurse managed clinics that provide primary health care to uninsured persons in the community at two satellite clinics in the greater Akron area as well as its main location within Mary Gladwin Hall on the University’s campus.  The clinics are staffed by clinical nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, physicians, graduate students, undergraduate students, medical students, and residents.


The Care Clinic

The Care Clinic is located at 230 West Market Street at ACCESS (Akron’s Citizens’ Coalition for Emergency Shelter Services), Inc.  The Care Clinic provides episodic health care to the homeless women and children who reside at ACCESS, Inc.  Some services offered at the clinic include well baby exams, Denver Developmental Screening Tests for children, health histories, physical exams, health promotion, parenting education and case management.


The Village Clinic

The Village Clinic is located at 730 Callis Drive at Callis Tower.  The Village Clinic provides supportive health care and health education to the residents of Alpha Phi Alpha homes.  Educational programs focus on individual client needs.

 

Foster Grandparent Program


The Foster Grandparent program provides volunteer opportunities for persons aged 60 and older to serve children and teenagers who have special needs.  Foster Grandparents help young people achieve personal independence and self-confidence. 

The Foster Grandparents receive their annual physical exams through the Center for Nursing clinics.
