Using the SRWC
What do I need to get into the SRWC?

To get into the SRWC you will need a valid University of Akron Zip Card, proper attire, proper shoes, a lock for your locker and a towel if you plan on using the pools or spa.

What happens if my University of Akron Zip Card does not work at the check-in desk at the SRWC or ONAT?

Individuals may be denied access due to:
-Currently not registered for class
-Possess an old Zip Card and barcode is worn (Zip Card office will replace for free)

The individual will be allowed to enter the first time this problem occurs but must resolve the issue before returning to the facility a second time. A note will be placed in their file so they cannot re-enter without a valid and current Zip Card.

If the individual has a campus SRWC member present to sponsor them, they may purchase a guest pass for $8.00 to access the facility

If a faculty/staff of The University of Akron takes a course at the University do they get free access into the SRWC because they are now classified as a student?
- No. The faculty/staff member currently does not pay the SRWC facility fee when taking any college course as does the normal student. Staff/faculty must still buy a membership to the SRWC. Employees who are eligible for tuition fee remission and whose primary affiliation with the University is that of staff/faculty/contract professional are required to pay the faculty/staff SRWC membership rates.
Can the faculty/staff still use the ONAT for free?
- Yes. The University has decided to respect that privilege established before the building of the SRWC.

How can non-university individuals gain access into the facility?
- Patrons must can be sponsored by a university sponsor (student or staff/faculty with a membership) and pay the guest fee. Guests must be 18 years or older, provide a government issued ID and sign a guest waiver. Sponsors must be present with and are responsible for their guests at all times while in the SRWC.
Can members buy a guest pass for a dependent 17 years or younger?
- No. The facility is for individuals 18 and older. The campus has 28,000 individuals over the age of 18 that could potentially use the facility. The facility does not have youth programs or equipment available, beyond swim lessons.
Intramurals
I would like to play but don't have a team. How do I get one?

The Free Agent system allows an individual to sign up with the possibility of being picked up by a team. This does not guarantee that the individual will be picked up by a team, but it is an avenue for teams and interested individuals to find one another. To become a free agent, stop by the O.A.S.I.S. and fill out a free agent form.

Where is the office located?
- The Intramural Sports Department is housed in the O.A.S.I.S. office (Outdoor Adventure Services and Intramural Sports). It is located in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center the building on the first floor near the Spicer Street entrance. The room number is 140 and the telephone number is (330) 972-6956.
Where can I pick up entry forms or sign up for an intramural sport?
- Entry forms are available in two locations. They can be picked up at the O.A.S.I.S. office or they can be downloaded from the intramurals section of the website. Entry deadlines will be listed on the semester schedule as well as on the individual sport flyer.
- Entry forms must be dropped off in person with the receipt as proof of payment. For league sports, you will select you league time at the time of registration.
What does an intramural sport cost?
- Most intramural sports have a registration cost. Some activities are free and other activities can range anywhere from $10 to $50 for either an individual or team sport. These fees are put in place to offset the cost of equipment, staff, and facilities.
What is the ranking system and how does it affect how teams get into the playoffs?
- The ranking system is all computer based. It takes the win vs. loss record, the point differential, as well as strength of schedule into account. It does not however affect if a team gets into the playoffs or not. If a team goes .500 (wins at least half the scheduled games) or better in their season and does not forfeit a game then they have successfully made the playoffs.

What are a team captain's responsibilities?
- A team captain is responsible for making sure that the rest of the team is knowledgeable of the rules for the specific sport, everything covered in the participants manual, as well as attending any mandatory captain’s meeting’s. The participant’s manual can be found in full detail in the Rules and Regulations section of the website.
When can teams add players to their rosters?
- Each team has through the end of the first week of competition to make roster additions. In order to be added to the roster, the new player must go to the O.A.S.I.S. office and complete the information in the add-on book. Roster additions must be made 24 hours in advance of the game to be eligible to play.
What if I do not have my student I.D.?
- Each player participating in any intramural sport must have a valid student I.D. If you do not have your University of Akron student I.D. at the time of check in, then you do not play until you have your valid student I.D. to show. No exceptions. Participants who attempt to play without checking in with I.D. will forfeit their team’s game and will be ineligible sport for the rest of the season.
How do I know what my teams schedule is? Playoff schedule?
- Schedules are available on the intramurals section of the website. From the links on the left of this page, you simply click on “Intramurals” and then click on “schedules and brackets”. Find the sport you wish to look at and then look for your team’s name.

Where is the wellness suite?
- The wellness suite is located on the first floor of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center room 107, just off the fitness floor.

How do I schedule a wellness screening?
- Call 330-972-6599 or stop by the wellness suite.
What services does wellness offer?
- We offer a variety of services. For a complete list go to the wellness section of the website.
Do you offer massage service?
- Massage Services are now available at Student Recreation and Wellness Center. General relaxation massages are available to both men and women and are offered in 30/60/90 minute sessions. 30 minute sessions work the neck, shoulders, back or legs and hands. 60/90 minute massages cover the full body.
How can I schedule a massage?
- In order to make an appointment for a massage, please call Wellness Services at 330-972-6599 or stop into the Wellness Suite, SRWC 107.

Fitness
How are the television stations selected?
- All stations are selected by a combination of you the users and campus cablevision. You the users have input through a survey sent out in the fall semester. We also review the UA cable rating system for the top channels viewed on campus. Once the stations are selected, they will not be altered during the semester.

Do you sell headphones for cardiotheatre use?
Where do I store my personal items since I cannot bring them onto the fitness floor?

All articles of clothing, bags, and personal belongings need to be stored in the locker room facility or in the wooden cubbies on the fitness floor and basketball court. We do sell locks in the information office. It is STRONGLY recommended that you lock up your belongings if you use the lockers in the locker rooms.

How many laps around the track equal a mile?
- 10 laps around the track equals 1 mile.
Do I need to clean the equipment after use?

Yes. When wiping down equipment we ask that you spray the towel twice, never spray directly onto the equipment. Please be aware of your proximity to others when using the spray bottles. Wiping down the equipment after use is a courteous act towards the next user. Wiping off the strength equipment prolongs the life of the upholstery, which keeps the equipment in operation longer.

Do you have to take a class before you can climb on the climbing wall and bouldering rock?

We offer free trial climbs the first time you come to use the wall. We want you to try the wall once free of charge. Bouldering will be offered free at all times as long as you have a spotter, and your own shoes. After the free climb participants can sign up for the belay certification class at their convenience.

Climbing shoes are available for rental. The rental fee is $2.00 for one rental or you can buy a 10 punch shoe rental card for $10.00.

Does the belay certification expire?
- Yes, your belay certification expires every 6 months. We want to make sure that everyone that is belaying is doing it properly and remembers what they are doing. As long as you can show us that you can belay safely, you will not have to retake the class, and there would be no charge. If you do not remember how to belay or cannot do it correctly, you will have to pay and retake the class.
What equipment is available for rental? How much does it cost?

How long can I rent the equipment?

We rent equipment for a day, weekend, or week. Depending upon what you are renting, we have limited supply of equipment so we ask that you limit your rentals to no more than two weeks.

Can anyone go on the trips and rent equipment?
- The outdoor adventure trips and seminars are available to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. We do require that all participants be at least 18 years of age.

Yes, we do offer swimming lessons to the students, faculty/staff, and community for both adults and children. Please check out the aquatics section of our website for more details.

What is the water temperature of the pools?
ONAT: 80 – 82 degrees
Leisure Pool: 84 – 86 degrees
Spa: 100 – 102 degrees

What is the size of the pools?

The ONAT pool is 50 meters long by 25 yards wide. During different times of the year the pool may be set up in either 25 yard, 25 meter, or 50 meter lengths depending on the type of practice or usage necessary to accommodate the groups using the facility.
